Ayuda to Expand Domestic Violence Work

December 1, 2009

Ayuda is thrilled to announce that a new two-year grant from the Department of Justice will help us address the needs of immigrant survivors of domestic violence in Northern Virginia for the first time. We will be able to reach hundreds of additional victims, providing them with the resources and support they need to establish secure, violence-free lives. In the past, Ayuda has only been able to provide comprehensive domestic violence and sexual assault services at our DC office. Yet, roughly 15% of the clients referred to our Sterling, VA office come directly from a battered women's shelter.

We are so excited to have such a wonderful opportunity to expand our work. However, FY2010 will be a difficult year for non-profits like Ayuda. As many of you may be aware, the DC government has cut their funding to domestic violence service providers by 25% this year, including all of their funding for Ayuda's domestic violence social services. We have restructured our program to ensure continued, although limited, service delivery in the face of this $100,000 reduction in funding. However, there are still gaps to be filled and we need your help to fill them. You can  donate now through our website.
