Legal help on immigration issues for low-income immigrants

If you are a Montgomery County, Maryland resident in removal proceedings or a Maryland resident who has experienced domestic violence, forced labor, or other forms of human trafficking, please call 240-594-0600 to see if any consultation appointments are available.

In looking for an immigration attorney, beware of non-attorneys or “notarios” who are not allowed to provide immigration legal services. If you believe you may be a victim of fraud in your immigration case, please contact Project END at 202-552-3604.

Ayuda aims to provide free legal services whenever possible. We are able to provide free immigration legal services, including consultations, to many individuals because of grant funding we receive.

If we are unable to serve you for free, Ayuda’s legal consultation fee is $100. If you are unable to pay, please ask to apply for a waiver of Ayuda’s legal fees.

Domestic Violence & Family Law Services

Legal help for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking in D.C.

DC Walk-in Clinic:  Ayuda offers a walk-in clinic for DC residents who are survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking.

If you live in DC, are a survivor of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, and need legal help with custody of your children, child support, divorce, civil protection order, or your rights as a victim of crime, call (202) 387-4848, text (833) 422-0005 or stop by our DC Office during business hours Monday – Thursday.

Hours of operation:

  • 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Legal help for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking in Maryland

If you live in Maryland are a survivor of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, and need help with custody of your children, child support, divorce, protective order, or your rights as a victim of crime, call (240) 594-0600 during business hours.

Social Services for Victims & Survivors

Social services for victims and survivors in District of Columbia

Case management and/or therapy services are available to immigrant victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Immigrant victims of human trafficking and child abuse or neglect may also be eligible for case management services.

If you live in DC, please call (202) 387-4848 or visit during our walk-in hours, Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for more information.

Social services for victims and survivors in Virginia

Case management and/or therapy services are available to immigrant victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Immigrant victims of human trafficking and child abuse or neglect may also be eligible for case management services.

If you live in Virginia, please call  (703) 444-7009 during business Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM.

Help in Your Language

You have the right to a free interpreter whenever you visit a DC government office or agency. You may also have the right to documents in your language. If you are not given help in your language, contact the DC Office of Human Rights [https://ohr.dc.gov/] at (202) 727-4559.

There are also many free lawyers, social workers, and advocates in the Washington, DC area who are required to use a free interpreter to work with you in your language. If your lawyer or social worker does not provide help in your language, call Ayuda at (202) 243-7317 to try to get a free interpreter.
